Well it helps you meet up with others, learn about birds and enjoy nature's beautiful environment. When you know someone well and this is an area they enjoy, buying them a gift should be quite simple. To understand what kind of gifts would be useful to a bird watching enthusiast, you will need to see what equipment they use.
Probably a hat is one of the easiest and least expensive items to buy. This is a very useful gift in the sense that it prevents damage to their face from the sun and stop glare at the same time. BTW, I found a site about recycled bags in Spanish: bolsas recicladas. One idea is to good is too find a pair of 'combat' pants which has many pockets because they can hold many items conveniently.
Something which has a greater number of pockets than this is a bird watching vest, which could be even more useful. these vests cannot be bettered.Retrieving things from the back pack is sometimes difficult so instead, they could use these pockets for their water, map, insect repellent etc. When you know their old backpack is in a dilapidated condition, you could get them a new replacement. Backpacks are available in plenty of sizes so you only need to find one that will be just large enough for a day out as these people do not carry too many things. A pair of binoculars is perhaps the most expensive gift for an ornithologist. Quality binoculars are expensive because of the optics involved which allow the bird watcher to see the birds from a distance with great clarity. You can get plenty of features in binoculars; expensive versions allow lenses to be interchanged and some can be used to take pictures and videos even. Ornithologists normally document what varieties of birds they have found, in what numbers and in particular where they were seen; so a good gift idea could be a bird watching journal.
For a gift with a difference, why not pay for an annual subscription to a bird watching magazine, preferably one they already read. These are normally published monthly or on a quarterly basis where they will be able to see pictures of birds in places that they have never been before like the Antarctic, the Amazon, Africa and somewhere in the Atlantic or Pacific. How about making a collection and buying a bird watching vacation for your friend to send them somewhere they haven't been like South America or Canada for instance; providing you have that kind of money! The US is home for many species of birds but still more have their habitat outside of this continent and can only be seen when traveling.
Best is to ask the concerned person and find out about their current needs. To get some meaningful gift ideas you need to have to discuss it with them; only then can you buy something which is not only within budget but meaningful too. After the time spent finding the right gift, it may light a desire in you to start bird watching in the future. Rather than admiring such people, you would soon be joining their group.
